Carded and needle-punched felt made with natural or synthetic fibers

Needle-punched felt is an assembly of textile fibers mechanically bonded using special needles equipped with small hooks that pick up the fibers from a layer of webs. The needles pass through the fiber web several times and hook the fibers together, creating a compact and resistant structure without weaving or knitting.

The fibers used are generally natural and come in a wide range of fibers:

Plant-based materials such as hemp, jute, and flax.

Animal wool.

Humans with hair !

Main features:

  • Biodegradable

  • Durability ranges from 12 to 36 months, varying depending on the type of felt, exposure, and climatic variations.

  • Thermal insulation

  • Range: from 350 g/m² to 1200 g/m²

  • Thickness: from 3 mm to 10 mm

  • Available in rolls, tiles or slabs

  • Usable width up to 2300 mm

Hemp : Very good moisture retention, lightweight, fairly durable, decomposes slowly, effectively limits weeds, French production, neutral pH, excellent carbon balance.

Jute : Excellent for covering the ground and preventing weeds from growing, good protection against erosion, natural aesthetic.

Wool : Very high water retention, remarkable thermal insulation (protects against heat/cold), rich in nitrogen as it decomposes, and significantly slows down weed growth. Its curled fibers provide excellent mechanical bonding and good coverage.

Hair/wool : Good moisture retention, provides nitrogen and keratin, valorizes organic waste, effective against certain slugs, and has a repellent effect against deer.

In only one case for the horticulture market do we find recycled synthetic fibers for the irrigation mat market intended for horticultural production.

We have the ability to produce 100% PES felts, made from recycled plastic bottles. These felts can be found in garden centers.

The needle-punched polyester felt produced by Lacus France offers excellent mechanical strength thanks to the perfect homogeneity of the fibers and resistance to mold.

It will then be usable for several seasons.
