Thermoplastic carded felt
The process of manufacturing carded felt generally involves opening the fibers which will pass through a succession of cylinders lined with a continuous thread which forms a set of metal points; This work will allow the fibers to be untangled and aligned to create a set of superimposed layers which constitute a sheet of the desired thickness.
Thermoplastic felt is an assembly of textile fibers bonded by thermoplastic fibers (polypropylene or low melt fibers), which gives it great firmness once heated and variable rigidity depending on the composition or swelling according to customer specifications.
Thermoplastic felts are generally composed of a binder made of low-melting-point, two-component polyester fibers and/or polypropylene, blended with other fibers from a wide range of materials, usually recycled. These recycled fibers, which form the body of the felt, come from clothing or garment manufacturing. They include all families of synthetic fibers such as polyamide, polyester, nylon, some wool, and even a small percentage of cotton. Depending on the recipe, the felt can be molded by heating and shaping, cut flat, or used as is.
Our recipes are not fixed and can also include a whole range of premium fibers such as polyesters (recycled or not). From 6 to 15 dtx and up to 64 mm in length.
We have the option of adding a non-woven material, with or without a specific finish, to one or both sides of our felts. Non-woven material weights range from 20g/m² to 300g/m².
